Sep. 10th, 2011 06:57 pmSplurged a little on comics today. Picked up the complete runs (so far) of X-Men (2010) and Generation Hope in preparation for Regenesis. Managed to find the last copy of Stormwatch in this city, and grabbed the new Alpha Flight, along with the usual suspects (including two issues of Uncanny X-Force).
Stormwatch ... not sure what to make of it yet. Apollo has SHORT HAIR, which shouldn't be such a big deal, but I'm already dealing with Shatterstar's haircut. Give me a break, comic book creators!! And Midnighter's costume is ridiculous, like, to the point I'm not sure I can take him seriously. Story itself was okay -- not sure I'm digging the new characters yet, but I'll give them a chance.
Uncanny X-Force ... it's like a train wreck. I'm not saying it's bad, because it's not at all and it's definitely one of my favourite titles, but I've never had a favourite character ascend into evil. It's horrific, quite frankly, and makes me very uncomfortable. I pretty much read X-Force with one hand over my face, begging Warren not to do something, and then reeling when he does it anyway. I am still 80% convinced he is going to die, and 99% sure if he doesn't, he'll be locked up somewhere. He hasn't shown up on either of the Blue or Gold covers yet, and to be honest, it's going to be pretty hard to redeem him from his actions.
And more comics talk: At SDCC,
placidia and I found ourselves in the BOOM! Studios panel (because I really wanted to be in the queer X-Men panel, which was in the same room and two hours later). We only went in because I knew who Mark Waid was, and the line behind us was getting insane. The panel was about Irredeemable and Incorruptible, and it was convincing enough to make me purchase the first trade of Irredeemable. Needless to say, I'm hooked. Irredeemable is interesting (hero, the Plutonium, goes nuts, turns into villain), but Incorruptible hits all my buttons (villain, Max Damage, turns into hero because he's the only one who can stand up to the Plutonium). Max is the worst frigging hero ever, but he's trying so hard, and he's right, someone has to do it.
No fic for it, unfortunately. :(
