The
raremaleslashex stories went live last Monday and author reveals were today.
I received a lovely Mugen/Jin story:
A Break in the Storm (5426 words) by LuciferxDamien
Fandom: Samurai Champloo
Rating: Explicit
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Jin/Mugen (Samurai Champloo)
Additional Tags: Anal Sex, Angst, Hurt/Comfort, Mutual Pining, Requited Affection, Blood, Canon-Typical Violence, Bathing, Comfort Sex, Rough Sex, Multiple Orgasms, Multiple Sex Positions
Summary: An ambush leaves Jin more distressed and affected than usual. At least Mugen is there to comfort him, in his own way.
As an aside, this might the first time I've ever (correctly) guessed my author. I really need to re-watch this series. It's soooooooo good.
And then I wrote:
Life in the After (3924 words) by Tangerine
Fandom: In the Flesh (TV)
Rating: Mature
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Gary Kendal/Kieren Walker
Additional Tags: On the Run, First Time, Canon-Typical Behavior, Post-Canon, Love/Hate, Antagonism
Summary: Kieren and Gary, on the run. When PDS sufferers target Kieren in an attempt to bring about the Second Rising, Gary does his best to make sure that doesn't happen.
I had been meaning to re-watch In the Flesh because it is completely amazing, and then this fandom showed up in the tagset, and yes. This makes the third media fandom I've ever written for. Exciting. Also, if you have never seen this show, it's great, I love it so much.
And then I picked up this pinch hit after assignments went out:
The Michigan Road Trip (3924 words) by Tangerine
Fandom: X-Men (Comicverse)
Rating: Mature
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Julio Richter/Shatterstar
Additional Tags: Road Trips, Hurt/Comfort, Pining, Post-Canon, Shatterstar (2018) - Freeform, Angst with a Happy Ending
Summary: In the aftermath of the events on Horus IV, Shatterstar and Rictor road trip to Michigan.
Because I took one look at the prompts and my heart sang for a road trip fic. Not entirely coincidentally, the word count for this story is the exact same as the world count for my original assignment. It just worked out that both drafts were within 5 words of each other.
And then I picked up this pinch hit after the default deadline:
The Hank is Awesome Treatise (3969 words) by Tangerine
Fandom: X-Men (Comicverse)
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Bobby Drake/Hank McCoy
Additional Tags: Best Friends, Friends to Lovers, Pining, Comedy of Errors, X-Factor (1986) - Freeform
Summary: Iceman does his very best to make sure the Beast knows just how awesome he is.
I had been re-reading early X-Factor (as one does) when this pinch hit came through. And I just... got the idea, and then I ran with it because by that point I had already written 28k words in a week and 4k more just felt like a natural extension. Also, the word count is fun.

I traveled for the first time as carry on only, which worked perfectly on the way there. On the way back, I let them gate check my suitcase for me. Leaving O'Hare was when it all fell apart. First delayed due to mechanical issues, and then due to fog, and then I arrived in Toronto to find out my connection had been helpfully cancelled for me (I had so much time to make my original flight, Air Canada, whyyyy) and rescheduled to an hour later. BUT I got a food voucher out of it, so I had a nice breakfast at A&W, where I had to order what I wanted in French because I had no idea what that particular order was called in English, because I only ever order it when I'm in Montreal. Then I slept all afternoon.
I also went to see The Meg. ( Oh, I loved it. )
My happy surprise this weekend was a notification that Exit Music had been podficced by

Silver Lake (4415 words) by Tangerine
Fandom: X-Men: The Animated Series
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Relationships: Remy LeBeau/Logan (X-Men)
Additional Tags: First Kiss, Camping, Cooking
Summary: After rescuing him from the Sentinels, Wolverine takes Gambit on a long-promised camping trip to Canada.
That canon review that I couldn't mention by name two months ago? I binge watched X-Men: The Animated Series in less than a week, because I hadn't watched it in its entirety since the early 90s. (I watch the episodes with Warren all the time). Season 1 through 4 are great. Season 5 is ... difficult. But man, watching that show again brought back all the feels. It's aged surprisingly well imo.

Eddies in the Pond (6060 words) by Anonymous
Fandom: Samurai Champloo
Rating: Explicit
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Jin/Mugen
Characters: Jin (Samurai Champloo), Mugen (Samurai Champloo)
Additional Tags: Plot What Plot/Porn Without Plot, One Shot, Complete, Anal Sex, Period Typical Views/Attitudes on Homosexuality, top!jin, bottom!Mugen
Summary: Tensions are tight between Jin and Mugen, and a visit to a hot spring helps to relieve some frustrations.
... I honestly can't believe Jin/Mugen counts as a rarepair. Because they are so awesome. Because the show is so awesome. Oh well, story of my fannish life is that I everyone I love is basically a rarepair, so. Just the theme of things, I guess.

I spent the weekend in Montreal, at Otakuthon. It remains one of my favourite conventions, and I bought a plush dinosaur and way too much fanart, but it was good. Montreal is basically The Worst in summer, though. Like, unbelievably hot and humid every year, unfailingly.
~~
More information has come out about the Shatterstar limited series. The writer seems to get it? There's an AMAZING piece of new canon, too. Like, my mind is blown about what Shatterstar is doing with his life. First issue comes out on October 3rd and I'm honestly not sure I can last until then.

Somewhat related, my Marvel Bang is sitting at 36k. I have roughly another 18k to go. I'm definitely expecting it to end between 50k and 60k. For something that is basically fluff, I have no idea how I got it that long. I was originally concerned I'd make the 10k minimum. Tomorrow is a holiday, so I'm hoping to get 8k written. Which is ... ambitious for me.
