Prompt 3: Canon Recommendations
As the
This one actually tripped me up, because I couldn't decide between two things, so I'm doing both! Even though they have nothing to do with each other! They're both too squee-worthy!
Top Ten reasons why Rictor and Shatterstar are amazing and everyone should read/write them:
1. Before anything, they are best friends. They have been best friends since the mid-90s. They are also canonically romantically together. Rictor (gay) and Shatterstar (bisexual/pansexual) have been together since 2009... off and on, because Marvel hates their readers.
2. They are C-list X-Men, so there are plenty of holes to fill in (heh). While they are together in the books, how they got together in the first place remains a mystery.
3. Because they are C-list X-Men, there are barely any issues to read about them. This reading list is a good start. Not listed there: the New Mutants: Dead Souls mini and the Shatterstar mini.
4. I spent my late teens/early twenties running a ricstar fansite. I would be embarrassed about it -- so earnest! -- but all my fevered delusions actually came true.
5. They have tragic backstories, but they find peace with each other.
6. They also have opposing personalities, so they play off each other really well.
7. Seriously, look at those icons up above there. They are beautiful.
8. They try so hard to stay together and make it work. So hard. But it usually pays off.
9. This ship is 20+ years old, and there are only 320 stories on AO3 about them. That is a travesty.
10. Trust me. They're great. I've been writing them since the late 90s. They're awesome.
Top Ten reasons why Yona of the Dawn is amazing and everyone should read/watch/write for the show/manga:
1. IT IS AMAZING. No, seriously... if you're watching the anime, you have to get past the first episode or so, for the whole thing to make sense. Give it a chance. I promise, it's worth it.
2. Yona is an amazing lead character. Like... her character arc is one of the most satisfying I've seen. She is a delight.
3. There are humans who are also dragons. From L-R, above, Jae-ha, Kija, Zeno and Shin-ah.
4. The anime was only 24 episodes plus 3 OVAs. We may never get a second season, and that is a crying shame, but the stuff we did get is amazing. The soundtrack is A++.
5. The manga is ongoing! There is so much more content! It's at turns both funny and tragic, and the entire cast of characters is amazing and play off each other so well. Yun and Son Hak round out the main characters, and they're both wonderful, too.
6. The anime is available on Crunchyroll! But only to premium members! I have three guest passes, if anyone wants one. It gets you 48 hours of premium access, if you're curious but want to see what you'd be getting for your money.
7. This is very much a found families sort of anime/manga.
8. It's also fantasy and shoujo, two awesome things.
9. There are only 1300+ stories on AO3. So not tiny, but not huge either.
10. Seriously, there are dragons. Who are also humans, and I love them so much.
