Writing is weird. Most of the time, I just type away until there's a story and it's all very chill. Other times, I get completely hung up on something and convince myself I am The Worst Ever.

Current concern: I am bad at dialogue. How do people write this talking stuff and make it look so easy??? I even went so far as to look into local writing workshops, because maybe that would help? Is it because I don't talk enough?? Should I talk more even if the sheer idea is exhausting???

Ahhhh.

Dear brain: just relax, okay? This is supposed to be fun.

So, actually, yes. That's kind of a thing! When you're taking creative writing classes its actually a standard exercise to send students out to coffeeshops and transcribe public conversations. The idea is that you want people to get a sense of the rhythms of daily conversation.

I had to do that exercise a bunch in high school and in college. I'm no professional writer, but I have at least one professional writer friend who still does this from time to time. Usually when she's working on a new fiction project and trying to get a sense of character voices.

All of this is to say: If you think it would be useful, try it!

Also betas. Betas are amazing. ;)

The other thing I'd say is to remember that all drafts are drafts. It isn't going to be perfect and that a written draft is better than a never finished draft. If you get something down, you can tweak it next time. Each time it'll get stronger, flow better, and feel a bit more natural.
