Hmm, this might be the hardest day for me yet. I suppose if I had to make a challenge, it would be something about leaving a comment or kudo on a story featuring a rarepair or in a small fandom. Sometimes, when you're writing in a tiny fandom, it can feel like a fandom of one or that you're writing into a void. So, yes, it would be something like that. Think of the rarest pair or the rarest fandom you like, find something to read, and let the author know that you read it and/or enjoyed it.

I always say it is important to comment on fanworks but especially on fic for rare pairs, small fandoms, and in some cases where both of those are true!

Absolutely! I just always think how much I love comments, so I try to pay that forward. And more encouraging usually leads to more fic, so win/win!

Hmm, good question. I tend to default to the yuletide definition for small fandoms (which is less than 1000 completed works in English that are 1000 words or longer). For rarepairs, I know raremaleslashex uses a cut off of 200 completed works in English that are 1000 words or longer. But none of this is really set in stone. I know smallfandomfest's cut off is 2000 works, for instance.

So it's also a gut feeling to me sometimes, like, when I look into a pairing or a fandom and ask myself, "that's it? Why isn't there more?" If I bemoan the lack of something, I consider it rare. :)

Oh, this is a great challenge! (they say, as someone who's responsible for upwards of fifty percent of fanworks for the ships I'm currently most active in writing for... I'm in some very small fandoms, but talking to the other people in them has been very rewarding!)

I am in some VERY small fandoms... so I don't know how impressive it really is. (I've written... 13 out of 18 works currently up on AO3 for St. Elsewhere, apparently?? Okay, that one is impressive, because I haven't been into it for that long. But I'm in a couple fandoms where it's literally just me and one friend writing things back and forth for each other, I seem to be incapable of enjoying popular fandoms nowadays)
