Snowflake Challenge: Day Twelve

In your own space, rec at least three fanworks that you think would make a good intro into XYZ fandom. Rec a fandom overview, a introductory picspam, stories that define and shape the fandom. If at all possible, try to pick a smaller or rarer fandom, one that maybe doesn't have the following you feel it should.

First up: there is a (slightly dated but still mostly relevant) ship manifesto for Rictor and Shatterstar.

As far as Tumblrs go, Fuck Yeah Ricstar is the motherload of Ric and Star scans, the occasional fic, and fanart. This is the most recent piece of fanart I fell in love with (ricstar elves ahhh). This one gets posted a lot, with good reason -- they look so handsome in stylish clothing! Or, oh! This college AU one!

There used to be a tonne of vids, but most have been deleted. But Starry-Eyed remains a favourite, and I hold out hope that someone starts making ricstar vids again. Oh, also Growing Up is great -- it's not only Ric and Star, but all of the New Mutants and X-Force.

Fic-wise, a lot of the older stuff has shown up on AO3. There are only 98 stories there, so I recommend every single one of them! (Two are in Russian -- I google-translated them and read them). One that is definitely missing is Hand Jive by Te. I still chuckle whenever I think of Star saying, "Oh, Ric, yes, the pain is of an entirely new and pleasurable variety!"

So, I think I'm almost done with my first trope_bingo square. I tried to write a semi-sweet Fuck or Die, and it's basically Julio being all "welp anything to help Star let's do this shit", awkward sex bits, then all the talking in the world from two guys terrible at talking. I wrote this one first, because this is pretty much how I expected it to go. Next up: Steampunk, because dammit, that's gotta be a short story, right? Maybe.

Also, the theme of the Moonlight Ball at Anime North this year is Steampunk, so I am for serious contemplating some sort of formal-ish steampunk!Terry gown, because I have a Terry-esque wig, and I can actually sorta kinda pull off red hair despite being a really dark brunette.

I've been reading Avengers Academy. ( It has not been exactly what I've expected. )

Also, bought the first season of Suits today. Already halfway through it because my leg is an absolute ass of unending referred pain right now, and I can only sit in a chair for limited amounts of time. Dear spine: you are cramping my fannish style, almost literally. Stop it!
