Day 5

As I get back into writing and fandom, I have two resources that have really helped me:

1. The books mentioned in this Tumblr post -- I actually bought the hard copies, because I like to flip through things, and I find them very useful for understanding people's motivations, traits and emotions (something I am not necessarily particularly good at IRL). Evidently, there is a web-page as well, by the same authors. Topics covered in these various thesauruses: positive traits, negative traits, urban settings, rural settings, and emotions. Also, the books are very large, physically, and as I am a librarian, I like that sort of thing. Speaking of libraries, my local one has several copies of each, so that is an option, too.

2. Marvel Database -- I stopped reading Marvel Comics a few years ago, when my fun money budget priorities shifted, but now my fun money has shifted back, and holy jeepers, am I constantly lost about plots, characters, series, etc. I've basically been living on this site, which provides enough information about the who, where and why of things (better than Wikipedia), and I'm slowly using it to get back into things. (As an aside, I was shocked to discover Jamie Madrox was killed off. He was the first comics death I ever cried ever, back when he died of the Legacy Virus.)
tangeriner: Jin with his hair loose and his kimono on only one shoulder (samurai champloo: jin)
Really trying to motivate myself to go to a hockey game tonight. -40C/F with the windchill outside, and I have doubts my car would enjoy that. (I am 100% confident I would not enjoy that).

In other news, I think I've settled on the square I'm going to start with in [community profile] trope_bingo (huddle for warmth). It's a corner, so then it's just the matter of which direction I go. I'm leaning diagonal, but down would also work. I guess two lines not out of the question? I mean, stranger things have happened ...

I'm having loads of fun with the Snowflake Challenge. I absolutely remain terrible at talking to people I don't know (RL, online, it has never mattered), so the fact I am rather chill about it all and just stumbling into people's comments is a Big Step for me.

Amazon hates me (seriously, ship my things, Amazon, it's been over a week), but Indigo came through, and now I have Uprooted by Naomi Novik and The Goblin Emperor by Katherine Addison to read. I am extremely susceptible to suggestion, and Yuletide seemed keen on these books.

Amazon Strike finally fell. Good riddance. Not sure why Amazon thought anime fans needed to pay more on top of their Prime memberships to access content. Netflix considers anime just to be another genre, as it should be. All that to say, I do not have a Prime membership, and I just want my packages.

Things I have watched recently:
1. First two episodes of season 10 of the X-Files, in anticipation of the new one.
2. The Shape of Water, which I really really liked. A very good vibe to it.

Plan to see tomorrow: Insidious - The Last Key.
