Mar. 3rd, 2018 04:48 pmEscapade: Awesome. Despite 3/4 planes running late, travel wasn't too bad. LA was supposed to be freezing, and it was a little chilly, but sunlight! No ice or snow! Con itself was mega fun. Glad I finally listened to
kerithwyn and went! Lots of laughs, and fannish discussion, and meeting/reconnecting with various people (hello!). It's not often you get to thank your Yuletide writer in person OR tell the person who wrote the very first Rictor/Shatterstar story you remember reading how much they impacted your fannish destiny. I also left with a list of things to check out, woot.
Iceman 11: Not Awesome At All. So the preview for Iceman 11 came out. Rictor and Iceman go on a (bad) date. What the fucking fuck, Marvel. There was so much potential for two guys to support each other as friends, due to a shared history and a similar coming out path, and instead Marvel opts for trying to hook up the Dude who rescued, taught and looked after a traumatized fourteen-year-old and the Dude who was that traumatized fourteen-year-old (after he got lured, kidnapped and frigging tortured by the Right in an attempt to force him to destroy San Francisco with his brand new terrifying earthquake power, which also just leveled three blocks in his beloved hometown). Fuck.
Generation X: Awesome. And it's cancelled. I finally got all the back issues, so I could read the whole thing, and it was SO GOOD. I have some fic ideas bouncing around in my head, thanks to it. I just adored it, and I'm so sad Marvel cancelled it. Fingers crossed the new New Mutants title can fill the void, but who knows? I did like Phoenix Resurrection quite a bit, and it's by the same guy, so maybe? Marvel is really pissing me off right now. Grumble, grumble, grumble.
The Path: Not Awesome In The Way It Hurts My Heart. I am extremely susceptible to Tumblr gif sets, so I started watching The Path because canon couples are Something That I Like. The show is pretty dark and grim (being centred around a cult with a grotesque hidden history, not surprising), so Hawk and Caleb's relationship is both a breath of fresh air (Hawk pretty okay with also liking dudes, Hawk's family being A+ supportive, Caleb finding surprise happiness when never expected to, adorable dates and kisses) and a deep source of agony (Caleb's family not at all supportive, threats of conversion therapy against Caleb, previous bad "relationship" for Caleb). I find their potential very interesting, but I have no idea what the show is going to do with them, so I am nervous.
It sounds like Smutswap assignments will be going out shortly. WHAT HAVE I DONE. I offered a last minute fandom, and now I regret everything (not really), and eeeeep. I'm not usually very adventurous with my offers, so I am not sure what persuaded me here. We shall see what happens.
