Snowflake Challenge: Day Four

In your own space, create a list of at least three fannish things you'd love to receive, something you've wanted but were afraid to ask for - a fannish wish-list of sorts. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your wish-list if you feel comfortable doing so. Maybe someone will grant a wish. Check out other people's posts. Maybe you will grant a wish. If any wishes are granted, we'd love it if you link them to this post.

1. I would love a Rictor/Shatterstar first time story written for me, because guh.

2. A sorta, I dunno, standing-offering to look at/beta Rictor/Shatterstar fic. It's such a small pocket of fandom, and so different from how it was in popslash (where I had several enthusiastic sounding boards or people suggesting fic ideas). I do get nervous sometimes about my stories!

3. Icons! Of stuff I like! (See profile).

4. I want to know more about vidding! What are your favourite vids that totally define vidding for you? Are there any Vidding 101/Vidding for Beginners resources floating around? Which programs are the best to use?

5. Suggestions for new conventions to attend! Any fannish ones I should add to the schedule? I'm headed to Otakon in Baltimore in August 2013, and I've been to San Diego Comic Con, but what others would you suggest!

6. Art for any of my fic, because art is awesome!

Oh man, Otakon! It is a lot of fun. :3 I also really enjoy AWA (I used to go every year but can't really afford to anymore, boo).

Atlanta loves them some cons! I've never been but I've heard a lot of good things about Dragoncon and it's got a much broader range of stuff. :3

those are the ones I used back in the day when I was getting used to vidding. you can find out a LOT by reading the [livejournal.com profile] vidding memories. what program you use depends on your OS. The big ones are Adobe Premiere and Final Cut Pro, but I always love Sony Vegas. They take some time to get used to, of course, but it's totally worth it.

There's a teeny-tiny slash con called Tribal Forces that takes place every April right around tax time. It's held outside Philadelphia. It has a little focus military and pseudo-military fandoms like the Stargates, The Sentinel, etc., but there are many other fandoms on board as well. I'd recommend it to anyone.

From [community profile] snowflake_challenge... Someone else was asking about vidding, back on Page 1. will have to go and see if I can find the post - she got a lot of links given her...

Here, in a couple of replies to [personal profile] kate's Day 4 wishlist post.

Hope that helps you out a bit?

You're very welcome - I've only recently got into vidding myself. There can't be too many fanvids out there, after all.

Good luck with your efforts!

I know everyone is all "Anime Boston" but! in New England, there's a 3 day event called "Connecticon" and it. is. amazing. So many fandoms and people and love--it isn't just anime or slash or gaming. If it has a fandom, someone is there doing it! I've been to panels on Japanese tea ceremonies, tea in general, history of comics, fan works, alchemy, steam punk, swords, etc.

It, as the name implies, takes place in CT! Usually at the beginning of summer. We're constantly adding in new people and discovering new things!

Not sure if you were planning on it this year, but if you do go, whatever year, make sure to book early! ...they sell out of hotel rooms really fast!

AMV's vidding guide. It's exhaustive, so you can decide if that's a good or bad thing.

I would *love* to look at any Rictor/Shatterstar fic, but I don't have any canon knowledge besides X-Factor. I keep telling myself I'm going to read X-Force...and the stuff with Monet...someday...

As mentioned above, Dragon*con is pretty amazing! I can give you tips if you'd like any.

I will read it...someday. XD What all has Monet been in? I can probably figure out the issues if I sit down with wikipedia/google for a while, but if you happen to already know that would be awesome!

Rooms are indeed super-competitive; the main hotels sell out literally within hours of the room block becoming available. There are cancellations that you can grab, of course, and a lot of people looking for roommates to save money (dunno if that's a concern for you, but it's pretty expensive.) There are a lot of both professional and fan panels! I usually stuck to the fan panels, since I hate waiting in lines for the big panels. There are panels for EVERYTHING. They have about 20 programming tracks running. The weather is...hot. Usually about mid-80s F, and the south is HUMID. Warm costumes should be fine standing around inside in the air-conditioning, but I would not recommend fur-lined costumes if you're going to be moving between hotels to get to panels.

The website just has basic info, but you can get a lot more useful stuff from the [livejournal.com profile] dragoncon comm, and the wiki they link.
