Thanks again to [archiveofourown.org profile] NicoleAnell for the lovely Cargo fic, Hold On To This Lullaby! Love love love it! \o/

For Yuletide, I wrote for [livejournal.com profile] arysteia:

Smile (9633 words) by Tangerine
Fandom: X-Factor (Comics), X-Force (Comics)
Rating: Mature
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Julio Richter/Shatterstar
Additional Tags: First Time, Mexico, Pining
Summary: It takes fifty-six hours on a Greyhound bus to get from Raleigh to Guadalajara.

I do actually offer other fandoms than X-Factor, I swear! Writing this fic gave me a chance to actually go back and re-read the heart-breaker issues (i.e. the issues of X-Force where Rictor and Shatterstar got written out and I basically gave up reading comics for five years). Fun things I got to research for this story: transportation options in Guadalajara, concussions, Greyhound schedules, and Beverley Hills 90210.

I also signed up for Trope Bingo again, despite my utter failure with the last one ... )

Well, I guess that is workable. That last horizontal line definitely gets the bunnies hopping.

Happy New Year to everyone!

Happy Holidays, everyone!

I got the most lovely story for [livejournal.com profile] yuletide:

Hold On To This Lullaby (4239 words) by Anonymous
Fandom: Cargo (Short Film)
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: Author Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Characters: Rosie (Cargo), Original Characters
Additional Tags: Zombies, Happy Ending, Children, Crossover: World War Z
Summary: Rosie grows up in a new world. Set after the events of the short film "Cargo" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gryenlQKTbE

If you want to feel joy, do not watch Cargo right this second, but trust me, it is a crazy bananas good short film and worth a watch. I was emotionally compromised after watching it, and needed a happy ending for the sweetest baby ever to appear in a film. This story delivered everything I needed after having my soul stomped on, with so many lovely little details and so much world-building, and it's just so awesome (and totally a surprise, because I did not peek this year)! \o/

Shoot! I thought I would have more time to procrastinate with my [livejournal.com profile] yuletide letter. Eeep, apologies to any distressed author who might be waving a fist in the air right now.

Anyhoo ...

Dear Yuletide author,

Hello! Nice to meet you! I'm a very easy going reader, and I'm very much a character girl, so need to stress about anything. I tend to have main favourites, and then secondary favourites that encompass everyone I left out, because I fall in love copiously and frequently. (I have a few characters I detest, but the fandoms I requested are totally safe from those guys).

I will rip off my likes and dislikes off from last year ...

Some things I love: happy endings, gratuitous nudity, homo-eroticism, sexy stuff (dorkily awkward or legitimately good), slash, first times, casual swearing, long hair, friendship romps, elves, tropes. I am a giant wimpy romantic suck, though, for the record. I cry at everything, and I like it, so things like hurt/comfort are good, too, if the ending is happy.

Things I don't love: death fic, incest fic, sad fic, non con fic. Butterflies (ugh, don't ask, but I get mega-skeeved out by butterflies). Um ... that's pretty much it, to be honest.

Fandom specific things ... )

Thanks to [archiveofourown.org profile] DeliaIsNotMyName for Closer and Ares: Father of the Year and [archiveofourown.org profile] Hllangel for Pocket Aces. I probably re-read each of them, like, 20 times each.  At least.

I wrote:

Heartlines (10373 words) by Tangerine for [archiveofourown.org profile] CheshirePrime
Fandom: X-Factor (Comics)
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Monet St. Croix/Theresa Cassidy
Characters: Monet St. Croix, Theresa Cassidy, Layla Miller, Jamie Madrox, Longshot (X-Men), Julio Richter, Shatterstar, Lorna Dane
Summary: Monet is bad at exactly three things: emotions, magic, and cheesecake.

I spent 16 hours straight one weekend, re-reading X-Factor, to prepare.  Such a hardship, I know.  Then I spent ages trying to figure out Monet's convoluted family history (no time to re-read Generation X ... and pretty sure I barely understood it in the first place).   Then I ate a lot of cheesecake, because when you write about cheesecake, you must eat it, too.  Then I finally finished it, even though I had to cut scenes.

[livejournal.com profile] yuletide is awesome!

As a plus side to the reveal, I an finally comment on the other two X-Factor (Comics) stories, Fearless by [livejournal.com profile] thinlizzy2 and Blink by [livejournal.com profile] misachan, which are both awesome [livejournal.com profile] ricstar stories.  I'm the worst sneaky person there is (and I spell like such an obvious Canadian ack), so I just avoided my favourite fandom in the entire history of fandoms for an entire week!  Woe.  That was hard.

Merry Christmas! Happy Holidays! Joyeux Noël! And yaaaaay [livejournal.com profile] yuletide day!

I got three stories! omg! So awesome!

First up, the official Yuletide assigned story:

Closer (1903 words) by Anonymous
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Dark Avengers (Comic), Dark Wolverine (Comics)
Rating: Mature
Warning: Graphic Depictions Of Violence
Relationships: Daken Akihiro/Johnny Storm, Bullseye (comics)/Daken
Characters: Daken Akihiro, Johnny Storm, Bullseye (comics)
Summary: "Lester had seen some fucked up things in his fucked up life, so walking into his kitchen to see a dead man eating the last of his pudding didn't even make the top ten list."

My two Daken OTPs, in one story.  ♥ .  It's bittersweet, exactly the way Daken stories have to be.  Also, I clearly have some sort of healing factor kink, which I've suspected for a long time.

My treats:

Ares: Father of the Year (1141 words) by Anonymous
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Dark Avengers (Comic)
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Daken Akihiro, Ares (comics), Alexander Aaron, Mac Gargan, Noh-Varr
Summary: "You're kidding me. He works for a lunatic like Norman Osborne, he's the fucking God of War, and he's doing domestic shit like putting his kid's pictures up in the communal kitchen?"

"You know how proud papas are," Mac said. "Oh, wait, I guess you don't."

Daken and his daddy issues.  Also bittersweet (Daken theme), especially in light of the recent Uncanny X-Force series.  Lots of humorous bits from the other Dark Avengers.

Pocket Aces (1890 words) by Anonymous
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman
Rating: Explicit
Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Jake Slicker/Hank Lawson
Characters: Jake Slicker, Hank Lawson
Summary: Hank's never been one to bluff, and this time he's all in.

The Hank voice in this is spot-on.  There's one particular exchange where I swear I could hear it in my head.  I'm also possibly gonna blush for the rest of my life whenever I watch Dr. Quinn (halfway through season four!).

Hope everyone has a wonderful day!

Well, managed to get my [livejournal.com profile] yuletide done.  It's not my longest, but it is pretty long. Hopefully, I can get some treats written this weekend. That would be awesome, because usually I'm travelling (and it's verrrry dangerous to write fic and drive -- I'm bad enough with the mental fic musings).

I've seen a few people do this, so I would like to do it, too.

The history of my Yuletide stories ... )

Tally thus far:
  • 3 in lit fandoms (1 fantasy and 2 historical romance)
  • 1 in video game fandoms
  • 2 in comic fandoms
  • 2 in manga fandoms
  • 1 in TV fandom
Is Yuletide here yet???

Dear [livejournal.com profile] yuletide Author,

Hi, thank you for loving something I do. I am the easiest person in the world to please, I promise. I will love anything, and I already know you have impeccable taste. I'm a character girl, first and foremost, so while I tend to lean more towards to slash in my writing, I will read anything if it involves a character I love. And I love all these characters. And these fandoms, and yes. Also a warning, I am the worst of the worst when it comes to writing prompts or optional details, so I apologise in advance.

Some things I love: happy endings, gratuitous nudity, homo-eroticism, sexy stuff (dorkily awkward or legitimately good), slash, first times, casual swearing, long hair, friendship romps, elves.

Fandom specific (just to give ideas, not really married to anything I write):

LJ cut, because it got really long. :D )
tangeriner: (x-men: psylocke)
Dear [livejournal.com profile] yuletide author:

Okay, you are awesome for overlapping your love with one of my fandoms.  I'm very easy to please, btw, so don't worry! I will love anything, because I am a character girl first and foremost, and the entire fic could be Sky High doing his laundry, and I would be mesmerised.  And I bet Max Damage would be terrible at laundry.  And Sebastian wouldn't have the first clue about laundry (and Evie might not be much more help).

Some generic things I love: happy endings, gratuitous nudity, homo-eroticism, sexy stuff, slash, first times, casual swearing, long hair.

Things I don't love: death fic, incest fic, sad fic.  Butterflies (I kid you not, unfortunately, I'm terrified of them).

More fandom specific:

Tiger & Bunny - Sky High, Fire Emblem, Wild Tiger, Rock Bison

This fandom is funny, because I love all of the heroes, and am feeling immense guilt I had to leave anybody out.  As I mentioned, slash would be great, in some combination of your preference, but I am so flexible on that.  Because they are friends, too!  What an awesome show!  Sky High is my dude, however, so if he could at least make an appearance, that would be cool.

Wallflower Series by Lisa Kleypas - Sebastian, Evangeline

Bah, anything, I swear.  These guys are just ... my heart, I love them.  No pressure, but like Evie, I am a stutterer, too, so I would definitely love to see that aspect of her included.  Lisa Kleypas did a really good job with her speech impediment, spot on, really, if you need inspiration.  Best book ever!

Incorruptible - Max Damage

I'm afraid my prompt is going to remain forever incoherent.  This guy, I would prefer gen.  I think he needs to be alone for a bit (but not lonely, which he totally is, which makes me sad).  He is just ... trying so hard to be good, and he's just so ... awful at it.  I really do hope this is a for-real change, and he's not just playing with my emotions.    I know he's not perfect ... but I hope for him, I do.
